What Type Of Exercise Is Best For You?

Not everyone has the same fitness goals, and it would be a huge mistake to believe so.While a huge percentage of gym-goers work out to lose weight, there are still traditionalists who are in it for the thrill of bodybuilding. In the past decade however, a number of new-age gyms have opened that have offered classes in functional fitness and circuit training for overall health.

Now, choosing the best exercise for you depends on your goals. If you’re a student of old-school bodybuilding and your heroes are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, Frank Zans, Dorian Yates, and Big Ronnie Coleman, then isolation exercises are best for you. These are exercises that target a single muscle group at a time, focusing on growing them.Isolation exercises emphasize aesthetics over functionality.

On the other end of the spectrum, a newer group of more health-conscious individuals have started a global movement through gyms like CrossFit. If you consider everyday movement and overall strength and endurance more important than how you look, then compound exercises may just be your thing. Compound exercises are what functional fitness is all about. These exercises generally involve two or more muscle groups per rep and train both strength and endurance.

Work out your goals so to speak, and choose wisely.

Imagine having a gym with all the things you need but without the hassle of sharing them with other people. And here’s the best part, you can set it up according to your goals. Image source: scoobysworkshop.com For example, if you’re a powerlifter, you can have a mat, an Olympic bar, and several plates. A bench or even a Smith machine would complete your setup. If you’re a weightlifter, you may need similar equipment, give or take a number of those barbell plates. As a weightlifter, you may also want to have a cage for pull-ups and dips, and a dumbbell rack for all those isolation routines. If you’re into CrossFit and HIIT, you’ll have the same stuff as a weightlifter and probably add some Olympic rings, kettlebells, and plyo boxes to complete your setup. If you’re into combat sports such as boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai, you’ll need a sp...
